El sueño de los progreseños de contar con un museo ferroviario será realidad en unos meses. El viernes pasado, autoridades del Ferrocarril Nacional y la Unidad Municipal de Turismo de El Progreso trasladaron a ese sitio motocarros, carretas o burras y otras piezas históricas que serán instaladas en el lugar para exhibirlas al público.
El sitio histórico es edificado en un predio propiedad del FCN donde por muchos años funcionó la terminal de trenes en el barrio de la Zona de la Compañía, al sur de la ciudad.
El director de Turismo, Pompilio Tejeda, dijo que luego de la aprobación de un decreto por parte del Congreso Nacional que permitió el traspaso de esos predios al municipio de El Progreso, el proyecto toma forma.
Junto a esa entidad trabaja un comité pro museo ferroviario que encabeza Harry Levis Mackala. Gracias a la organización de ese grupo de personas el proyecto avanza y las autoridades han puesto su interés para concluirlo y ayudar de esta forma a trasladar esa historia a las nuevas generaciones que no vivieron la época en que ese medio de transporte fue traído al país por las bananeras.
Tejeda indicó que desde hace varios meses trabajan en la construcción de aceras y bancas y en la instalación de un sistema de iluminación del lugar, tal como está detallado en la maqueta.
“Estamos alegres porque todas las cosas se nos están facilitando. Las piezas históricas las hemos comenzado a recoger de diferentes lugares de la costa norte, faltan muchas, luego las vamos a colocar para que las personas disfruten de la belleza y la historia del ferrocarril”, expresó el funcionario.
Según los ejecutores del proyecto, la Municipalidad tendrá que evitar en los próximos meses la instalación de la feria del agricultor los domingos, pues el lugar debe estar completamente limpio y protegido.

Levis Mackala manifestó que la lucha iniciada hace varios años comienza a dar sus frutos para bien de la historia del municipio.
“Creemos que esto es lo mejor que le podemos regalar a la población y en especial a la juventud que muy poco conoce sobre la llegada del ferrocarril y la razón por la que dejó de funcionar en Honduras”.
El también ex empleado de la Tela e hijo de motorista de locomotora manifestó que el aporte de Roberto Micheletti y el alcalde Alexander López fue clave para lograr la aprobación del decreto que permitió el traspaso de ese predio al municipio.

Progreso's dream to have a railway museum become a reality within months. Last Friday, the National Railway authorities and the Municipal Tourism Unit Progress motorcars moved to that site, or donkey carts and other historical items to be installed on site for display to the public.
The historic site is built on a property owned by the FCN where for many years operated the train station in the neighborhood of the Area of the Company, south of the city.
The Director of Tourism, Pompilio Tejeda, said that after the adoption of a decree by the National Congress that allowed the transfer of those lands to the municipality of El Progreso, the project takes shape.
Together with this entity works a committee headed towards Railway Museum Mackal Harry Levis. Thanks to the organization of that group of people the project progresses and the authorities have put their interest to conclude and thus help to move the story to new generations who lived through the period in which this means of transportation was brought to the country banana plantations.

According to the executing agencies, the City will have to avoid in the coming months the installation of the exhibition of the farmer on Sunday, then the place must be clean and protected.

Mackal Levis stated that the fight started many years starts to bear fruit for the good of the municipality's history.
"We believe this is the best thing we can give to the people and especially youth, very little known about the arrival of the railroad and the reason it stopped working in Honduras."
He also former employee of the fabric and the son of a locomotive driver said that the contribution of Roberto Micheletti and Mayor Lee Alexander was instrumental in securing the adoption of the decree which allowed the transfer of that property to the municipality.
